I leave this card in to give credit where credit is due in the evolution of the concept. •••••••• XrefText6 (superceding XrefText5 and preceding versions) is a text-based stack that provides text-to-text >HyperText< capabilities in the >HyperCard< environment. The name can be translated as cross-referenced text and is pronounced by the author: ex-ref-TEXT. XrefText was originally inspired by Raines Cohen of Team BMUG in a stack idea topic in GEnie's HyperCard BBS Category, and developed to its present state by >Frank Patrick<. Further inspiration for Version 6 has come from Guy Kuo's UNSOM technique, the modified BMUG hypertext trick again from Raines, and seeing these things work in the Developer Stack by Steve Drazga. It works by toggling between the LockText modes and using the selection of words to search the keyword fields. See the Help button for the simple details of operation. • Note: XrefText comes complete with a nominal >shareware< solicitation. • Another Note: The graphic look of XrefText was provided by Mel >Ristau<. Version 1 was mine and I must admit it was rather ugly in comparison. The new looks just blew me away and shamed me into the functional >modifications<. • Note within note: I've taken it upon myself to adapt Mel's original graphics to the >XrefText/M< stack, which requires a menubar (XrefText didn't, relying on buttons.). • Final Note: I use Boston-NY 9, for the fonts in the text and keyword fields (The Help field uses Geneva 9). If you don't have Boston-NY or New York installed in your system, or if you would rather use another font or style, feel free to customize these settings for yourself. (Post-Final Note: Previous versions used Times (per Mel's recommendation), but since most people don't have LaserWriters, and therefore have no need for Laser fonts in their systems, I've changed to the more standard serif font, New York.) • Really Final Note: A previous version of XrefText was featured in the premiere issue of HyperNews, a stack-based newsletter for the HyperCard community, and in that issue, garnered a rating of 8.6 out of a possible 10 (second highest of the stacks reviewed). And...Nibble Mac magazine scored it 24 out of a possible 25, placing it in the top ten of its ranking of 195 stacks!!!...So if I don't brag for myself, who will? -- part contents for background part 41 ----- text ----- What links to XrefText? -- part contents for background part 42 ----- text ----- applications AwayFromHome HyperText modifications Patrick shareware XrefText
